Sponge Iron (DRI)

Sponge Iron (DRI)

Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), commonly known as sponge iron, is a critical raw material in steel manufacturing, produced by reducing iron ore with coal at controlled temperatures in rotary kilns. The process results in a porous metallic product widely used as a reliable and efficient substitute for steel scrap.

The Group operates two modern DRI manufacturing units — RAVS Steel Pvt. Ltd. and Sri Ramanjaneya Ispat Pvt. Ltd. — acquired in 2018 and 2020 respectively. Both facilities are designed to deliver stable, high-quality production using pure iron ore and imported South African coal to maintain consistent metallization and operational efficiency.

Each plant operates with a production capacity of 200 MTPD, resulting in a combined installed capacity of 400 MTPD with consistent metallization levels of approximately 80%.

The division caters to induction furnaces, electric arc furnaces, integrated steel plants, billet manufacturers, re-rollers, secondary steel producers, and raw material traders across the steel industry.

With dependable output quality, strong production stability, and efficient process management, the sponge iron division plays an important role in strengthening the Group’s integrated steel value chain while providing a sustainable alternative to imported scrap.
